Windows Installshield Wizard Download and Installation

Last updated: February 25, 2005

You can download the either one of two TinyOS Installshield Wizards (you will be asked to fill out a short survey; when you submit the survey the Installshield Wizard will be downloaded). Click here for how to decide which one is appropriate for you.

Here’s a detailed description of what the InstallShield Wizard does.

Note: The TinyOS InstallShield Wizard allows you to choose to install some TinyOS features and not others. Unless you thoroughly understand the interactions between the different TinyOS modules and tools as well as which version combinations work, we recommend choosing a Complete install.

Before beginning, you should remove any old TinyOS installations and previous tools. Please refer to the manual uninstallation instructions for tips on how to do so.

.The following table describes the installation windows that come up in order and what action should be taken on each window. The whole installation can take several minutes for some steps take a long time to complete, so please be patient and don’t kill any windows that appear during the installation.

You must install as a user that has Administrator privileges. If you don’t, the setup
will eventually abort but it could leave cruft behind.

Setup Type

Click the setup type you prefer, Complete or Custom. Complete includes all TinyOS third-party tools (1.4 JDK, GraphViz, AVR Tools including the GDB debugger and AVaRice ICE-board interface). Custom allows you to choose the features that you would like on the next screen. We recommend the Complete setup type unless you are familiar enough with the TinyOS development environment to understand the interactions between tools and how not installing one tool will effect the environment..

Once you choose your setup type, modify the Destination Folder to your preference. Everything that is installed will fall beneath the destination folder you specify.

(If you did not choose to install the 1.4 JDK and JavaCOMM, this screen will not appear.) Read the screen, ensure that you have read and agreed to Sun’s terms and conditions for the 1.4 JDK and Java COMM package, and click Yes. If you have not agreed, click No and the installation will terminate.

(This screen will only appear if you chose the Custom setup type.) Choose the features that you want to install. We recommend the installing all tools unless you’re familiar enough with the modules to understand how to tune your environment to compensate for missing tools.)
